Do the COLOUR of your clothes effect how much you TAN?

Im going on holiday soon %26amp; have read a few answers on here that suggest that white colours reflect the light and darker colours absorb the suns rays...does this mean if you wear a white bikini or white clothes your less likely to get a suntan than if you wore darker colours?

Dark colors attract the sun...thats why your driveway is way too hot to walk on with barefeet in the summer and the grass isnt.

However: its not the color of the clothes that affects your tan, its how thick the fabric is. The sun is less likely to get through if your wearing a bulky sweat shirt rather than a tiny T shirt.

Black and the darker colours dont absorb light so they are cooler [eg. shadows]

White and lighter colours do i think [snow is an exception as its in winter when the sun is high in the sky] (may be other way round)

So therefore the colours absorbing more light should make you tan/burn more. [Provided they are thin]
Reply:no because the clothes are still blocking the sunlight from getting to your skin either way. yeh black absorbs and white reflects but thats the heat.
Reply:No, it doesn't, only the thickness of your clothes do. If you wear black clothes only the clothing will absorb the light, not the skin underneath.
Reply:no, because either way the sun rays can't go through you clothes! lol. but the space that it doesn't cover will become tan! DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! :)
Reply:Beside tanning rays, the sun gives us heat. The heat is what is being referred to when talking about colors.

Tanning rays will not go thru cloth of any color or thickness= Sunblock 100

The "heat" we feel from the sun is absorbed by dark colors on the outside and reradiates it to the skin on the inside....so you feel very hot. White(or light colors) reflect the sun away(instead of absorbing the heat) so the coth feels cooler on the inside against the skin. White also reflects the sun tanning rays(like a mirror) as well.

Look at the faces of skiers( white snow reflects the sun back into their face).
